Ensuring effective labour relation: RENL NUAAE executives undergo a two (2) days intensive training

Members of Nigeria Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE), Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited have undergone a two days training to further boost their capability in managing union activities. The training tagged, “Union and management relationship” is aimed at establishing a robust synergy between management and union members/workers in ensuring an effective labour relations management as well as to prevent grievances in work place from growing into disputes and industrial crises.

The two days training which held both in Araromi and Osse River sites of the Company had in attendance all executives of the union across RENL’s sites of operation.

Addressing participants at the training in Osse River, Smart Okhions, Deputy Human Resource Manager of the Company, admonished the union members to take the training seriously and put into use things learned from the training. He maintained that management is conscious of the need to equip the union with requisite knowledge that will help them function well in their day to day running of the union and it was on this premise the training was organized.

While promising management continous commitment to the overall good of the workers, Smart Okhions noted that the new administration will leave no stone unturned in its bid to putting smiles in the faces of all workers through the provision of basic amenities and good welfare package for all. He thereafter urged them to be good ambassadors of the Company in all they do.

On his part, the Union Chairman of Osse River, Ehigie Osariemen Desmond stated that the training was apt and has helped to brighten their horizon in the day to day running of Union matters. He thanked the management for this initiative and it will help to create a better synergy of robust relationship between management and workers. He further affirmed that things learned from the training will be passed across to the workers during their meetings.

Also, the Secretary of the union, Osse River Branch, Osayande Nosakhare Shedrach said the training was a welcome development as it has helped to inculcate a better leadership style in the union affairs. The training also help us to distinguish between management prerogative and negotiable items as spelt out in the condition of service. Nosakhare also maintained that the training afford them the opportunity to understand the power of collective bargaining as a means to resolving grievances between management and employees as against industrial action. He thereafter urged management to extend the training to all workers so it can equip them positively for the overall good of the company.
